Water Team, day 1

Things are going ok here. We have not seen any trouble but Pastor Voltaire is having us in the house by 2pm because the protests; when there are protests, they happen after 2pm. We have food but no electricity. The food is cooked on a charcoal grill. They run the generator to fill the water tank on the roof and we run the air conditioners at the same time to cool the bedrooms. It is hot here. Probably about 90F. Gas is scarce but we have enough to go short distances. Solar panels have been put on the roof since we were last here and they run the lights and allow us to charge phones. So.... life is good for us.
There are not many vendors on the streets so all those people don’t have income. School is not in session because the “bad guys”, as Pastor calls them, have made threats to the parents. Many businesses are closed or are open for a short time daily. So life is hard for the people.
Our friends and the people we meet are resigned to adapting to whatever comes their way. They make the best of the situation. I always learn so much from the Haitian people. Their faith, perseverance and strength are an example for all. What wonderful people.
So we are safe, we will not get all done that we want to but I think our presence is an encouragement and that is our first priority.
Janet and I met with the Haiti Clean Water workers today and had a “staff meeting”. It went well. Tomorrow we will go to homes.
Thank you for prayers, keep them coming.
Lynn Ross
