Day 2 – Cap-Haitian, Nord Haiti
From Ft. Lauderdale, Miami until
now, Tuesday –January 14, 2014, the devotions have been building on unity,
transformation and trusting GOD for his works in our lives. Watching as
mysteries unfold, listening as blessings a bound and staying prayerful that we
complete what GOD has planned for this mission. We will not only be giving GOD
his glory but growing spiritually as well.
Our first opening devotion was designed
around communion. Linda Mealing, Ypsilanti, MI, gave us much food for thought,
through scriptures, as we were about to embark to the mission field in Haiti. Linda’s
request was for me to assist her in the Lord’s Supper. I read from 1 Corn.
11:23-26 for this spirit filled connection as she served each member of the
team. Establishing this connection with each team
member in attendance prepared us as we remembered who sent us to serve on the
mission field.
We arrived in Haiti early Monday morning
to the warmth of the sun, green vegetation and a smiling reception. We were
greeted with great love. Pastor Voltaire has the respect of his community that
exudes through the porters and security here in Cap-Haitian at the airport.
It was a relaxing day with our first meal in our new abode to a beef
stew with a flavor unsurpassed of anything I have had the opportunity to savor.
As evening rolled in Steve, a Cap-Haitian resident came and took us on a stroll
through the neighborhood. Once we cleared a curve life happened. People doing
an assorted amount of events became interesting to watch. Yet we kept walking.
My eyes ingested the visuals of the neighborhood’s life with a young man
cutting hair with a single razor blade to my left, children playing on steps, an
older man squatted at his door way, a undressed little boy checking out the
sights as we walked by, fire blazing while cleaning an areas of debris and just
to our right five men working on a house on a hill, which we found out later
belongs to someone with means. Yes, I am snapping photos. We continue our
excursion until we end at a school. Homage given to a Don Bosco is all over the
school including his burial site. The compounds design is teaching skills to dormitory
students, agriculture, farming, fashion, auto mechanics, landscaping and other
life skills for productive living. What an opportunity. No pictures allowed.
We leave there and go get water at a
nearby store. The sky is changing the wind begins to pick up with the
assortment of motor vehicles racing past us. My eyes become filled with the
grit that is floating through the air. We make it back safely to Pastor
Voltaire’s home were we go in for a rest before dinner.
We come to a marvelous meal of
beef with gravy, rice, a mixed vegetable which I heard had squash in it; we sit
and we munch awhile. This was truly a king’s meal.
