Day 3 – Cap-Haitian, Nord Haiti
Our third day in Haiti and second day at work. Woke up this
morning to a delicious meal prepared by our wonderful cooks. Then we were off
to work. Some of us did construction work, while some painted. Overall today we
got a lot accomplished. Both my teammates and the Haitians have taught me so
much about construction work, I had never known the small tricks or pretty much
anything to do with construction. My favorite part is that we work with Haitians,
who cannot speak English, and we are surrounded by students who know very
little, yet we all communicate with motions and body language, followed by many
laughs. There are two boys Christopher and Cliff who are about 13 years old,
who would follow Sam and I around, because they really want to learn English. I
thought that was so cool that at such a young age they strived to learn our
language. At lunch time some ladies at
the school prepared us a huge meal. There was even shrimp with the eyes and
legs still on it, but Sam and I shared one, and we loved it. At one point
today, about 20 school girls surrounded me and they all felt my hair, and they
told me they loved my hair and eyes, and they giggled at my poor creole. I have
been blessed with such an amazing team. Each day we become closer and closer,
through our work, devotions, and spreading God’s love as a team. It is only
three days in and I have fallen in love with Haiti, I don’t think I want to
leave. I have already experienced so much, and I will only be learning much
more, I cannot wait to come back with so many stories and most importantly a
new perspective on life.
