Day 3 – Cap-Haitian, Nord Haiti
Adam and I (Hayley) decided to take
our turn blogging together. So far the week has been a whirlwind of excitement
and new adventures. The hardest thing to get used to is honestly the heat.
Working in the direct sun has led to more than a few naps and a couple gentle
dehydration reminders. Adam says that his favorite part so far has been being
able to work along the Haitian crew. It is amazing how, even with the language
barrier, we are all able to communicate well enough to be productive and have
fun learning at the same time. We have been slowly picking up on the language
here and it is cool to hear the Haitian people practice their English on us. My
favorite part has been just learning- everything from culture to language to
construction to learning about our team. We have had the opportunity to work
with some of the power tools (I am getting pretty good with the saw) and to see
a much simpler, yet quite effective way to get some of the jobs done.
We are
both missing home, but being honest, we’re not sure that we would trade this
warm weather for the snowy mess we know is awaiting us. We are looking forward to
what other opportunities we will have to serve as the week goes on. Oh! It was
really cool, the chaplain at the school we are working at heard me singing and
asked me and some other members of our team to sing at their church service on Sunday.
We are
going to catch some sleep before the stupid chicken decides it needs to give us
our wake up call, over and over, for most of the night.
Love you and miss you all,
Hayley and Adam
