Day 4 – Cap-Haitian, Nord Haiti
Going to Haiti has been one of the best decisions that I
have made in my life! The people are absolutely wonderful and very welcoming. Obviously we get stared at on the street for
being different but when you think about it, it is not very different than we
do at home when we see something/someone new. Today was our fourth day here and
third day of working at the college, building stairs. We began work and finally
got to pour concrete to start the actual structure of the stairs. While taking
a break before lunch today a large group of students came over to us and began
to talk and ask questions. Even though we could not understand the question, we
figured it out! At one point they began to play music and told us to dance for
them and of course we had to show them some “American” moves and dances. We
learned several of their names and what they like to do for fun. Lunch today
was a Haitian version of pizza with several other filling dishes which was very
good. I love the fact that now people are starting to get to know us, and we
are getting to know them so well that we can be ourselves and have fun with
them. Today was definitely the day I sweated the most, starting at the work
sight and once we got home we played a very fun game of soccer with the group.
I am so beyond happy that Sam told me about this trip and I decided to come. It
has been the best trip for me and the fact that I am doing this for God and the
several people that are in need makes it even more special to me. The group of
people that I am with is beyond amazing and the people I am meeting here are by
far the reason that I am going to be very sad to leave. I definitely plan on
coming back several more times and help the people of Haiti and other places as
well as do this for God and spread the word because this is what he made us to
do.
