Back in Cap-Haitien

Back In Cap-Hatien

Wow, I am back in Cap-Haitien.  Amy I am safe and missing you.

While we were waiting in the Cap-Haitien airport, Steve walked up and this mission really became real.  Chris and I walked right up to him and gave him a big hug.  Speaking to him on Facebook is nothing compared to seeing, hugging, and speaking to him.  The ride from the airport was everything I remember and was reinforced when we arrived at Pastor Voltaire’s house.  I am so happy to be back.  I really missed this place.

When I first heard that Gary and Chris were heading back to Haiti, I asked them what their plan was.  I was thrilled when they later asked me to go with them.  However, when I actually found out the details, I became a little uneasy.  As you know, we are running a VBS.  I am not usually an outgoing guy and the idea of walking around with a bunch of kids and teaching them kinda scared me.  I am a very behind the scenes guy.  I run the projector during service and try to stay out of the spotlight, or much light at all really.

But these kids are amazing.  They bring out the best in us all, and they can see the love we have for them, even if we cannot tell them.  Today for our first day of VBS, I was right out in front for our opening singing and dancing.  The kids were imitating us and it felt so good have them sing in Creole with us.  ‘Deep and Wide’ has never been so fun for me.

I am the leader for a group of about 12 kids with more to come tomorrow.  I did not have an interpreter for parts of the day and it got a little crazy.  But I made it.  The boys in my group had a lot of energy that I could barely keep up with.  The girls were all so beautiful and curious about our hair.  Tomorrow will be another fun day teaching, learning, and loving the kids here in Haiti.
