We started the day with my brothers and sisters breaking
bread together. Some people put eggs on theirs….but it still counts as breaking
bread right? Then we were off to the jobsite
on our white horse. We at least were all in the back of a white pickup truck and
some of us were horsing around.
We got to the apartments to be painted. They
were small concrete apartments that may not have seemed like much to us, but
they are solid, safe homes that offer much more than the average person in
Haiti has to call home. We began
painting the apartments as workers were hanging doors on some of the last
remaining apartments without doors. The
young people that wanted to help and the workers had more smiles than any group
of mid-western folks from the USA. As I
was painting some port holes in the wall, a young man unashamedly asked, “Do
you love Jesus?” “Yes! I do!” I exclaimed, the boldness of the young man caused
me to reflect. How often are WE bold enough to asked strangers, “Do you love
Jesus?” I have seen so much hope and Love
for Jesus from people who have nothing by our standards. Or are we the ones who are confused by our
stuff and let it get in the way of loving Jesus?
