Hello,
American Baptist Team Haiti from Michigan here!
We just arrived at the crowed but somewhat organized airport
and were treated well by the workers. Rain and our mosquito buddies meet us. It
has been severe flooding in neighboring townships and here in Cap Haitien over
the past few days. Therefore our plans- have changed. We are watching, waiting
and seeking to find what the Lord will have us do to bring more comfort and
support to our brothers and sisters in Haiti.
The trip from the airport to Pastor Voltaire’s home was
filled with scenes of abject poverty but God is not a creator of loss. In the
eyes of the people there is a joy and hope that transcends what we saw. Our
team consists of 16 mission workers. Ten have before served and six are here
for the first time. I am a part of the latter group and seeking what God will
have me do. It is raining now as I write but rain can serve a dual purpose. It
can flood and destroy but it can also rinse and wash clean old ideas and the
complacency of a person Ezra 10: 9, 12-14, 18.
Whatever tomorrow brings I am confident our group and the Lord will work
through it and succeed. I understand there is newly constructed wall near a cemetery
that was partially washed away Nehemiah 2: 3-6. One group will need to go
survey the damage and clean debris. A widow’s home has also been damaged by the
rains. Another group will go to correct and repair the home. Still another
group will go and install/ replace/ repair water filtration systems in homes.
As you are reading this blog allow me to ask you what can
you do from your comfortable situation in America or elsewhere to join this
battle to improve the living and spiritual conditions of the people of Haiti. I
always pray before I eat Matt 7: 7. In my prayer I say,” Lord help the people
who have little or no food to eat all over the world”. Today, I am a small
finger of God’s hand and am an answer to my own prayer. Thank God for the
opportunity to meet my own prayer face to face.
We must remember the God we serve is a mover and shaker of
the universe John 1:1-3. If we are to please our creator we must take the
initiative in time of disaster, distrust and dehumanizing conditions. Shouldn’t
Christians be the face and voice of reason, justice, fairness and love that
people see when they- ask where is God!

week. Read and meditate upon the following scriptures:
