Hi Everyone! I hope everyone is doing great! Just know that we are praying for our nation as we are away. Everyone is healthy which is amazing and requires much praise to the Lord! Thank you Jesus for protecting us from infection and bodily harm. Today started out with no rain but it seemed the minute we were to head out the sky opened up and started pouring out. We divided into two groups today. Half of us went to the Baptist school to learn about water filtration and help with clearing out the flooded area and others including myself headed off to Bethany Church.
When we arrived at Bethany Church under a siege of a massive
rainfall (rain droplets were a size of two half dollar coins laying vertical)
there was seven from our team and maybe five locals helping with the clearing
of the bricks. As our neighbors out in the streets started looking on and
noticing us clearing away the debris and refuge they started to come out to
help. At first a handful and before I
knew it grew to be about 30-40 locals working alongside us. It was truly an amazing opportunity and one
that I am very grateful for! We had
formed a chain consisting of people 2 people shoveling dirt into 5 gallon
buckets and then sending it down the line to where we were making a parking lot
size pile. As our numbers grew
throughout the day I found myself at the end of the line instead of the front
of the line. Many believe that has to do
with who we are and our status as foreigners and there may be some truth to
that but as I looked to the person to my right, left, and in front of me I saw
nothing more than God and His amazing grace. Even though, my ears were foreign
to what I was hearing I can see and hear the excitement in everybody’s voice
and body language, and it was inspiring!
This mattered to them!
God is always good and He smiled upon us and the people of
Haiti today! As we settle in for the
evening please continue to keep us in your prayers as well as the people who
live here. The interaction with the
locals at the church was great but I could see and hear the dislike from others
as we drove past pedestrians in the street and on the sidewalks. We are strangers in a foreign land but praise
to the Father for He knows no difference among His children. May the Lord continue to be praised and His
work be completed here! Thank you
brothers and sisters in Christ! Take
care and we will be home soon!
Forever and always the Lord’s servant,
Erin Buck
