Today Terry, Pamela, and I were
able to do a little fun time with the children from the Bethany sites. We have been interacting with them all week
but wanted to do more (thanks for the idea Lynn), Some Hello Kitty velvet
marker sets were donated along with candy and little canvas bags (thank you
Josie and 2nd Baptist Battle Creek) that made this afternoon of fun
a possibility. There is nothing like hearing little Haitian children singing “Jesus
Loves Me” in English and Haitian Creole. Their excited, sweet, and clear voice
proclaimed their knowledge that Jesus loves them and will care for them. They spent 30-40 minutes coloring their
projects and that was before there was any announcement of a contest. They carefully signed their names and marked
their ages. Amos and John, two of our
beloved Haitian workers/translators assisted me in telling them my “Ant”
story. This was a new experience for me but
one I would repeat a million times to see them understand why God sent Jesus to
them. Well the contest was judged by
several of the Bethany Committee. We only had two prizes, a backpack and some
Dum Dum Suckers but we ended up giving five prizes adding on the used markers,
some English flash cards (no pictures), and a set of colored chalk that was in
a baggie and broken. The kids were
tickled pink! They all also got a small
bag of hard candy, gum, and a few suckers.
You should have seen their faces!
You all would be here if you could.
It wasn't just the children, but their parents, grand- parents, and
members of the community that were so proud of their children that made the
warm, humid, tiring afternoon a true blessing.
I keep talking about next year’s trip and I haven’t even
finished my first trip. God has moved my
heart that mission work is truly in my future.
I love my Church with all my heart but the work here has to be shared
with more willing people whether it be here or supporting those who can
come. Thank you to all of you that have
supported us, we feel your strength and your love.
A Servant of Christ in Haiti, Becky – Aurelius Baptist Church, Mason
