What a journey so far, each trip having its own set of adventures
and this one is no different. Two members arriving on time at the airport (with
me) and yet nearly missing the plane, but as God would have it we encountered
two very kind gate agents that held the door minutes longer than they should
have to allow them to board (who does that anymore?), my first lost piece of
luggage in all our trips and an airline that won’t deliver it to us 5 hours
north of PaP (we’re working it out-see note below), and a broken down charter
bus in the pitch black of night in the mountains of Haiti and yet God delivered
us through it all, safe and sound, to chez Voltaire. Each team is so different
and this one is no different. People of different ages, genders, colors,
nationalities, and much more but we are one in the spirit, one in the Lord,
serving each other and the people of Haiti and being served BY them too.
The worksite on day one was pure love poured out in human
form. Hugs from those we love and who love us; it is a beautiful thing to
experience and to witness. Normally quiet people opening up about how they see
God at work – yes it’s just day one and we are feeling good and “feeling the
love.” It doesn’t hurt that the weather is THE BEST I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN
HAITI! Yes, all caps to that. Temps in the 80’s, cool breeze on the patio and
as I type this tonight, excellent “sleeping weather” as all you Michiganders
will understand, a worksite with a real flush toilet and a sink to wash our
hands and shade all day today. When we get to mixing concrete later in the week
we’ll work in an unshaded area but it is so perfect. Everyone is well, feeling
good, tired after that incredibly long day to get here but we are good! And to
Ms. Tracy who I hope is following our blog, John M. to the rescue. Seriously.
He met us at the airport just for a hug and a hello (and of course his t-shirt)
and we exchanged phone numbers “just in case” and guess what? It is just in case time. We are flying the
baggage claim ticket to PaP tomorrow morning on a flight out of Cap, John will
go to the airport and retrieve that package with the ticket then go to the
other airline and retrieve the bag then catch a bus north and deliver the bag
to our doorstep. He very much wanted to work with us this week but we could not
arrange it and yet God arranged it perfectly. Vince even pointed out tonight, “Lynne
did you notice the ladies made up four beds in the men’s room this week when there
are only three of us?” Hmmm… they knew
before we did that John would need a bed and it is waiting. And I’ll close with
this expression of gratitude to all the churches that collected donations. We checked
eight extra bags overflowing with everything you can imagine and we are still
making our way through all of it.
Hello team! I am sorry to hear about the challenges you have faced, but I'm excited to see how the Lord will be glorified through them! It makes me happy to know that you are there in Cap-Haitien, and my heart is there with you! I am following your blog the best I can. Serve with your giant hearts and give hugs from me all around! :-)
