Day 1 – Cap-Haitian, Nord Haiti
Perhaps the smoothest trip down, ever. Both flights on time and this morning we even
left early, made good time and no one was at the airport to greet us (sound
familiar Grand Goave team?) But of course the agents and attendants knew Pastor
Joseph Voltaire, phone calls were made, Vince handled all of that while the
rest of us tried to get through the luggage check and out the door. Many
willing souls wanting to help us, sell us sunglasses and many other things but
No Merci was our practiced response. And
when he did arrive, yeah!, Herb Rogers from ABC IM was with him.
Yes, we all thought we were rarin’ to go to work but alas
no, Ye shall rest. And before we knew it everyone was happily taking a power
nap. Lunch was wonderful, beef stew (yes it’s hot and we are eating beef stew)
and other than the naïve folk who said they liked hot sauce and put numerous
“drops” of it in their stew, we knew who they were because they were sweating,
choking and turned a different color. And one called herself a “hot sauce
connoisseur.”
The school supplies and personal hygiene products and tools
and all that was collected through the various churches is absolutely amazing. What
an ordeal getting it all into 15 suitcases with none being over 50 lbs. We will
get some pictures posted when we can.
God is at work in Haiti, oh ya, but apparently He has
decided to withhold gasoline for the time being. There is no gasoline at any
station in the city (sound familiar Grand Goave team?) so I hope “Raju” our
chauffeur had a full tank in his bus to start the week and we are his only
clients.
God bless,
Wish we were there with you but there's no doubt in my mind that the God of Angel Armies is ALWAYS by your side!!! Serve hard, laugh loud and love BIG!!!
