From One Ministry To Another

Hi Everyone.

Praise the Lord!  One thing I am grateful for is the opportunity to experience a mission trip and not only a mission trip but leaving the country and experiencing another culture.  Other than crossing the border to Mexico (I was raised in Houston, TX), this is my first time leaving the country.

It is a blessing to just observe and learn about another culture.  It’s a blessing to be in another land hearing people speak another language that is not my own.  One of the blessings is the opportunity to learn and gain experience.

It was great arriving in Haiti on Saturday morning and going through customs and the airport.  Our trip here from the airport to the living quarters was about two hours from Port-Au-Prince to Grand Goave.  After our arrival, we were able to eat and it was neat eating my first Haitian meal.  Something I appreciate is going to work soon after we were settled and after we ate.  Getting started at that time on Saturday, prepared me for Monday so I have an idea of what we are going to do.  We made some good progress on Saturday getting the frames together and metal cages with chicken wire ready for the rubble in the rubble house.  The truck ride over to the work site and riding up the mountain was an adventure.  The experience of working with other people and following their lead as we started the early stages of the rubble house is great to have.

Today, I attended my first church service in Haiti.  Hearing the songs in the Creole French language was beautiful.  There was a young girl translating the sermon from the Pastor to two of our team members.  From today’s service, it seems like there are two words that are universal and they are “Amen” and “Hallelujah”!

By the end of this week, I will have a great experience being able to experience Haiti and a mission trip in the name of Christ.  Meeting new people is great, living and serving in a different culture is a blessing.  Praise God for this transformational experience!
