Day 2 of VBS
At first I was very nervous when I found out we were doing a
vacation Bible school for the Haitian kids.
I was put in charge of my own group of kids. I didn’t think I would be a good leader. As soon as we arrived at the school, kids
were crowding around us holding our hands and playing with our hair. My lack of confidence immediately was
replaced with a love for the kids.
Within minutes I felt like I had known my group of girls for a very long
time.
The language barrier was a concern of mine. But I quickly realized I could bond with kids
by playing games and just spending time with them. My group taught me a song in Creole and I
taught them Jesus Loves Me in English.
They helped me learn some Creole so we could communicate better. And even though the kids may not have much,
they are so giving. They offer me
spoonfuls of rice at lunch and packets of crackers as a snack. A few girls had a music player so we danced
together. One girl even gave me the
bracelet she was wearing. It’s hard for
me to take what they offer when I have so much, but God is teaching me to
accept gifts and be grateful.
Other than VBS I’m having a great time in Haiti! Pastor Voltaire and his wife spoil us like
crazy with a beautiful house to stay in and the amazing food they spend so much
time on. I love just walking around or
riding in the back of the pickup truck.
I’m still in awe of the beauty of the city and the people. I hope I can come back to Haiti next year
because I don’t want to leave at the end of the week!
