I had the great pleasure of being asked to join and lead the Michigan Servants for Christ Puerto Rico trip this summer. While we met on zoom in preparation, I first met this crew in person at Logan Airport in Boston where I drove from my home in upstate New York. Saturday was quite a travel day for everyone. The Michigan folks arrived in Detroit at 8am, made their way through security with only minor issues, and landed in Boston slightly after noon. We all got to San Juan, Puerto Rico slightly early around 7pm. As we waited and waited and waited for our luggage, we figured God was teaching us patience. Thank God that everyone and everything arrived safely!
We are staying at the First Baptist Church of Rio Piedras
(Primera Iglesia Bautista de Rio Piedras), which is celebrating its 125th
anniversary this year. Rio Piedras is
just outside of San Juan. There are six women is one dorm room, and five men in
the other. In the past, the facility has housed well over 100 relief workers,
so we have it pretty easy. We ended Saturday night tired but excited about all
that we will experience and the ways God will use us this week.
