I had another first on this mission. When you are in Cap-Haitien, there is a fort that can be seen on cloudless days. It is the squared off top of one of two neighboring mountains. I had heard that people can go up there and look are the Haitian fort, but there was never an opportunity to go. Well, now I've had the opportunity. There is a switch-back road that leads out of Milot and then a switch back trail that you either walk or ride a horse up. It gets pretty steep in some spots. And the air starts to narrow. I walked and I was huffing. I used map my run to track it and we went up 100 feet in about 3/4 of a mile.
The fort kept looming above us and Terri kept saying almost there, but it seemed like there was another curve then another. And the Citadel just got bigger and bigger. Once we made the final turn, we saw the Citadel and it was massive. We had a tour guide that took us around it for about an hour. Below are just a couple photos.
We were literally among the clouds. I am thankful for the opportunity to go and i hope to return on a clear day to see Cap-Haitien from a new perspective and the Dominican Republic.
