We woke up to a clearing sky this morning. After a delicious breakfast of oatmeal, hard
boiled eggs and bananas, the entire team went to Bethany House to do
cleanup. We had the bucket brigade going
to clear trash and broken cement. The
Haitians were doing a lot of the heavy work, filling and pushing the wheel
barrows we put together for them just yesterday. The pile of rubble is growing huge, but the
area behind Bethany House is looking good.
This afternoon, part of the team went to see what else could be done,
and the bulldozers were going to be there doing the heaviest work. The most rewarding part of my morning was
getting to know the children. They all
want attention and love hugs, and they taught us a few new games. When they had us kneel in a circle while one
went around the outside tapping each person on the head and saying something in
their language, we caught on that they were playing the game “Duck, Duck,
Goose”. They were delighted that we knew
that game and caught on to some of the games we weren’t familiar with. We sang songs with the children. When we sang “Yes, Jesus Loves Me”, we were
pleased to see that most of the children knew it enough to sing along. While one of our team was teaching the
children a few new songs, I was learning as well. I am feeling so blessed to be on this mission
trip and to be with this team. I know
God is with us and guiding us to do what is needed to be done.
