A Great Day In Cap Haitien

Hello to all of you family and friends at home!  It is such a blessing to know that you are thinking of us and praying to support us all.  Our work today was much more extensive and hearing from the team at the work site was encouraging. The team working: Rick, Lynne, Vince, Kelsey, Rod, Yolanda, Carnel, Tracy, Chris and Tom worked hand in hand with our Haitian brothers at the site constructing roof supports and working to clear a path to the small chapel on the hill.  Tracy said it was such a blessing to “work in the garden” and Yolanda and Kelsey drew back to early civilization by using rocks as hammers to clear rubble and make walls ready to repair mason work.  Great effort and progress was made at the camp and we are eager to return tomorrow for our last long day of construction work.
Throughout the day a few members of the team became tired and had upset stomachs, but as the day has continued prayer has worked to begin restoring health and endurance.  We implore you to continue prayers for health and endurance for the team so that we can continue to show Christ in the labor we do and the interactions we have.

Dolly, Gary and I were able to use some of our other skills the past two days to interact with the people of the church family here in Cap Haitien.  Gary has been blessing the people with discipleship/Bible classes and has been truly benefitted by the amount of scripture the people know from memory! Haitians are a people who take the Word of God seriously and take pride in knowing it extensively.  What an encouragement for each of us to aspire to know His Word by heart.  After Gary’s class, Dolly and I have had the opportunity to use the same classroom to teach and English class to a group of 33.  They are so eager to learn to speak and write well.  It is amazing to see a diverse class from probably 17 to 70 participate fully and interested in bettering what they already know and learning anything knew that they can.  This is the first ESL class I have ever taught and it is a wonderful experience.  Education is truly valued in Haiti and I am refreshed by being a part of this class and truly pray that I am being a blessing to the students and a sufficient teacher.

How exciting to be able to use such a variety of gifts all to the glory of God.  We are paying attention to His leading, responding as we can, and praising God every chance we get for the experiences.  God is alive and working in Haiti and what a privilege we have to experience it even for a small time.  Please continue to pray that we have compassion and are moved to action to the glory of God and that we have open hearts that are in tune with God’s leading and point all to him as the provider God who lives! Good night all. Please know that we are overflowing with the work that God is doing through us and in spite of us.  He is awesome and we are blessed!

With tremendous love and excitement,
Jess
