Blessings from Cap Haitian!!

Today was a different kind of day for me!  I had the awesome opportunity to speak at the University/Seminary at the 2011 Haitian Baptist Congress.  It was a great drive to the University; I had the opportunity to see more of Haiti, and the countryside.  I found it particularly beautiful!  I saw where Christopher Columbus landed (before he landed in US) and where the first Christian Christmas was celebrated in the new world.  From the beauty of the place Christopher C. should never have left. The campus was beautiful, very well kept with lots of flowering bushes and trees.  I was truly impressed with its quietness and beauty.  I kind of swooped in and was the 10:30 speaker.  Had the opportunity to address Haitian Pastors and delegates from all over Haiti.  Also got to meet a number of the “big  wigs” such as the President of the University, and the Seminary, who I sat with! I spoke which I pray went well, (Pastor Voltaire) said they “loved me”, though I’m sure he was being extra nice.  They then broke for lunch and I would have loved to have stayed and spent some quality time with them, but alas I was headed back to the compound!  I did get a chance to meet and hang out with for a time a Pastor Jeantel Alberus who leads Eglise Baptiste de thomassque or something close to that spelling!  He was so friendly and hoped I would visit his church the next time I am in Haiti.  I pray there will be a next time!  Also got to meet a gentleman they call Zunga yesterday.  He is a missionary from the Congo, who works at the University/Seminary and teaches.  Seemed like such a wonderful man, and I immediately liked him and felt a true brotherhood.  He has been in Haiti for 13 years.  He also is in charge of the eye clinic, and heads up the “Kids for Kids” program which gives goats and kids to kids in the country.  They raise these animal and it helps them pay for school!  Even today when I was picked up by a driver from the University, I mentioned Zunga, and the driver said how much he loved Zonga!  He said he is a dear friend. I think he has made quite the impression in this country!  The stories about him are amazing.  One of those Saints who we in the US never hear about.  A large and successful school in Congo which he started before he left has been named after him.  Well anyways it was a great day!  I came back to the compound though and all of my “mates” are somewhere else.  So I spent a rather lonely afternoon just chilling here at the house.  I wish I had been able to spend more time at the University, but alas it wasn’t to be.  It’s funny how you can be lonely in a city of a million!  Well my “mission mates” have returned and there is a huge thunderstorm, so I’m heading to get some “people time”.  Blessings from Cap Haitian!!
